About Mary Jane (MJ)

Mary Jane (MJ) is an adventurous little tortie with endless curiosity. She loves to explore, investigate everything around her, and is always ready for playtime, whether that’s chasing toys, entertaining herself, or wrestling with her brothers. MJ approaches life as though every object in the house deserves a thorough investigation, and her curiosity is part of what makes her so much fun to watch.

Although she likes to keep busy, MJ is also a sweet little girl at heart. Once she’s settled in, she enjoys pets and affection, happily leaning into your hand for more.

MJ has recently been diagnosed with FELV so he would need to be in a home with no other unvaccinated cats.  He could live though with adult cats that are fully vaccinated for FELV or other FELV kitties although there is never a 100% guarantee that the vaccine will protect them.  Currently MJ has the regressive form which means he’s not shedding the virus and can have many healthy years ahead.  FELV has no known cure currently and the virus can move from regressive to shedding. It is imperative that anyone who adopts Parker or his siblings understands that he can never be an outdoor cat as this is a virus that is transmissible to other cats if they are not vaccinated. Greatest concentration of the virus is in saliva so mutual grooming, sharing of dishes are a higher risk of transmission when a cat is shedding the virus. There is a lower concentration of the virus in faeces when a cat is actively shedding the virus.  FELV is not one of the core vaccines that all kittens receive therefore, you would need to check your vaccination records, if introducing into another cat household to ensure that they are fully vaccinated for FELV.

MJ and her siblings deserve to live as many healthy years as they can with the right family. There will be no adoption fee for these three however, we will be interviewing to ensure that people are aware of what the disease is and what to be prepared for. We would consider a long term foster situation for any one of these cats.

MJ ideally should be adopted only to households who already have an FELV cat or no other cats in the household and no intention of getting another cat. CCAR currently has a cat in foster with FELV who is 12 years old so it is possible for FELV cats to live a long, healthy life, but full disclosure is that they generally do not live as long a life as most non FELV cats.  (CCAR ID: C26-235)
