Meet Marcel (Mars). This sweet boy may take a little time to come out of his shell, but underneath that shy exterior is a loving, playful companion just waiting to blossom.
Mars initially took his cues from his sister, Beccs, watching her explore and interact with us before finding the courage to do the same. It took him a few days to feel comfortable, but once he warmed up, his affectionate side really started to shine. Now, he loves being pet and is happy to snuggle up beside you — or sometimes right on top of you — when you settle down on the couch.
Mars is the perfect balance of playful and laid-back. He loves a good windowsill for some quiet observation, but bring out a ribbon toy and watch him go! He gets wonderfully enthusiastic during playtime and can jump impressively high when he’s chasing his favourite toy.
He isn’t a fan of being picked up, so he’s best suited to someone who appreciates a cat who likes affection on his own terms. As he grows more comfortable, who knows what he might become more open to?
Because Mars gains confidence from other cats, he would likely thrive in a home with a friendly feline companion who can help show him the ropes. That said, he could also do well as an only cat with a patient person who enjoys quiet evenings on the couch and is happy to let him settle in at his own pace.
Mars would likely be happiest in a calm home without children or dogs, where he can feel safe and build trust without too much hustle and bustle.
If you have a soft spot for shy cats and love the special bond that comes from earning their trust, Mars could be the perfect companion for you. Give him a little patience, a comfy couch, and a ribbon toy, and you’ll be well on your way to winning his heart. (CCAR ID: C26-190)
