About Sydney

Sydney is a low-maintenance cat with a sweet personality. She spends most of her days relaxing in hard-to-reach hide-outs, but when everyone in the house has sat down for the evening, she bravely ventures out for pets. She tends to stay at arm’s length, just close enough for you to give her vigorous butt scratches. If you choose your moments wisely, you can sneak in and scoop her up, and she’ll immediately start purring loudly. Give her a few pets (or a brush, her favourite) and she’ll soon be drooling in pleasure.

Sydney has FIV, so her body is not very good at fighting off infection. When transferring between fosters she picked up a few infections, but her health has been stable for over a year. One of her eyes is a little goopy, because she doesn’t have a paw to wipe it with, but she’s very patient when her human wipes it with a warm cloth. She’s not a scratcher or a biter.

Sydney was rescued by CCAR after being shot. My guess is that she was a very friendly and affectionate cat before that, but being shot has made her skittish (can you blame her?). She still has buckshot throughout her body, but has never complained of pain when picked up or held. Her right front leg was amputated following the shooting, and she’s since learned to get around very well on 3 legs.

She hasn’t shown interest in many cat toys, but she does a good job of pouncing on bugs whenever one sneaks into the apartment. Late at night, she has been known to frolic — there’s a real goofball underneath all that fear!

Sydney’s CCAR ID# is L22-286
