Just over two weeks ago, we lost a long term foster named Lincoln. He was a beautiful boy who came into our care about 2-1/2 years ago after being abandoned in an apartment when his owner left. He was not in good shape, covered in fleas, and additionally we discovered he was in fairly advanced renal failure along with a fairly severe heart murmur.
Lincoln went into foster care with Kenji and Mari (who have fostered several cats for CCAR over the years). What a match made in heaven! Lincoln thrived and received amazing supportive care from his loving foster mom and dad on a daily basis which greatly enhanced and increased his life. He was given daily supplements, several kinds, sub cue fluids daily, and regular check ups. There was nothing that Kenji and Mari did not do to help this boy. He loved his life with them and we have some great photos below which show this.
In the last few weeks, Mari had to journey unexpectedly to Japan for personal reasons. She insisted that Kenji stay at home and care for Lincoln as she did not want to move him into a temporary foster home where he hadn’t done well in the past. At this point, Lincoln was failing, but still happy and enjoying playing with his paper bags! Sadly, this handsome fellow passed shortly after Mari left. They gave this cat an amazing 2-1/2 years. One of the goals I had when CCAR started was to do just this, give these older cats the best time of their life in their later years. Too many are euthanized because they are costing too much, and are “too much trouble.” What Kenji and Mari did for Lincoln epitomizes everything I want for CCAR and we are all very grateful to them for caring for him so much.
