Carstairs was just two years old when things went terribly wrong for him. The first blow was when the only family he knew moved away and left him behind to fend for himself. Fortunately someone noticed him and called CCAR who came out and rescued him.
It became obvious that something was wrong , as both his front and back leg were horribly swollen. He was taken to the vet where after numerous tests and surgeries it was discovered he had the dreaded “C” word…CANCER. The cancer was very aggressive and had the upper hand from the start. Carstairs then went into a foster home to receive loving care for the time he had left. I can only imagine at this point how frightened and confused he would have been with all the changes that had happened in such a short period of time. Despite this, though, it was easy to coax a purr out of him and it became apparent that his favourite thing was a good old belly rub. Unfortunately the cancer progressed quicker than we had anticipated and the pain was getting too much for him to bear. It was not an easy decision to cut short the life of such a young cat. To know he would never grow old under the care of a loving and committed family. To know he would never again sleep contently in the warmth of a sun ray. To know his gentle purrs would be cut off by the harsh reality of death. I hope Carstairs knew in the short time he was under the care of CCAR that he became more precious than gold. His life MATTERED!
Upon passing may you have been swept up in the soft wing of an angel to be taken to a place free of a pain and suffering. My heart is heavy and my face wet with tears as I say this final goodbye.
