Mario is a very sweet little guy who has obviously had some serious trauma in his short life. He has some significant scarring on his back that is almost certainly from one or two large dogs picking him up and shaking him. He is excited to meet other dogs but gets a bit skittish around bigger, jumpy dogs. Mario would do well in a home with another small to medium sized dog who he can cuddle up with and gain confidence from. He does not like to be alone so this would help if the owners are not around. He is a bit skittish around people he doesn’t know. He does not like sudden movements or sounds. He loves his hour long or more leash walks and does not really pull except when he sees other dogs. He has slept on his own at night but would prefer to not sleep alone- a doggie buddy will do. He has figured out the dog door and is house trained although do expect a few accidents when he is moved.
If interested, please request a dog application form from firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that only applicants who I feel would be the right home for this little dog, will be contacted. We get many applicants for small dogs and as a volunteer, I do not have the time to respond to everyone and I apologize in advance for this. I feel the best home for Mario would be in a home with another dog, especially if you are out a lot of the day. Older children would be fine with him. I have not seen any aggression in him at all. He does love his walks so I would like a home that is pretty active and has a decent fenced garden space. After being with us for three weeks, we have tried off leash walks. He has been very good about coming back to me when called and/or staying close to our dog.
