About Lucas

Lucas is back!

Lucas went to a wonderful adoptive home but unfortunately he was too much for, and too interested in the resident cats! We need to find this lovely boy a home without cats. Other dogs are fine and he probably would like to have a dog buddy but it is not absolutely necessary. [Original bio below]

Lucas is a large breed dog but so gentle. He came to CCAR after he broke his leg and the owners could not pay for the repair so he was to be euthanized. We took him on and he had surgery to repair his leg about 4 weeks ago. He is doing very well but his activity needs to be restricted to leash walks only for the next at least *8 weeks. He does play around in my yard as he has lots of energy. He is big gentle giant who has no idea of his size. He still needs to have follow up x-rays and still needs to be neutered, the surgeon says if possible to wait for him to be neutered until after he has healed, apparently testosterone helps healing. I have not had any problems at all with this dog not being neutered. He truly is a gentle soul. He does need some training (especially on the leash) as he does pull, but a big part of that is that he has so much energy that he wants to burn off and he can’t. He knows to sit, lay down and shake a paw and would be an eager dog to train. If you can help out with fostering him or are interested in adopting him (CCAR will be responsible for all vet bills relating to his broken leg), contact ccar@shaw.ca

*This time frame is now shorter. We will provide new guidelines at the time of his adoption.
