This is Toby who is a beautiful 5 to 6 year-old tabby with stunning markings. I would like to be able to tell you that Toby’s life has been filled with love from the start but like so many other cats, this was not to be the case with him. I imagine he was adored as a kitten but as grew up he was discarded as he was no longer deemed cute. As a result, Toby had to learn how to fend for himself in a cruel and foreign world.
While fighting for his survival, he developed a severe ear infection. This would have resulted in each day being exquisitely painful for him. The pain would have never ceased and would have eventually moved up to his brain and killed him. Fortunately, CCAR was able to trap him and get him immediate care which involved expensive CT SCANS and surgical procedures. Along with the ear infection Toby developed a condition that affects his left eye. The left eye appears cloudy as his third eyelid has covered over his pupil restricting vision in it. The infection also affected his balance so that when he walks he keeps his head tilted in order to maintain his balance.
Through all of this medical treatment he had to learn what love was all about. His health is improving and we are optimistic that he will live a long life. If something should happen to Toby pertaining to the conditions prescribed above, CCAR will step in and help out as much as possible but honestly, we are not anticipating problems although we can never guarantee that these will not occur.
Toby is slowly developing trust and will now come when you call his name. He is still uncomfortable about sitting on a lap but he will gladly stay by your side in order to receive the much coveted belly rubs. This is a big improvement from the cat who would cower upon arrival whenever anyone went near him. He remains cautious and wary but when he feels safe, his glorious loving self shines through.
Toby will require someone who will go that extra mile with patience to come around in his own time. He loves to be with other cats but because of his nature would not do well with children in the home. Toby is worth the extra work to give him confidence and I am sure that when he finds his forever home, he will blossom and be a wonderful friend.
