About PRIVATE: Lulu Belle

Please Note: This is a courtesy post, as Lulu Belle is not a CCAR cat. You must contact the owner directly at the coordinates below for more information.

Meet Lulu Belle, a beautiful and playful chocolate point balinese female cat looking for her forever home.

She is 3.5 yrs old, and has been living in a family with 3 children since her adoption from the breeder in the greater Victoria area. She has been referred to as a ‘puppycat’ since she loves to chase and play with hair elastics, feathers, and pompoms that zoom across the floor. She will fetch and retrieve. Lulu is more motivated by play time with people than anything!

She also loves brushings and cuddles. She loves listening to music and will often come and lay where it is happening, or plunk on piano keys. Lulu loves to be close to people. She is curious and very affectionate. She comes running when you get home. Lulu has tolerated gentle handling by her family’s children, now 8, 12, and 14. She loves a good cardboard box or bed on the ground for chilling during quiet time. She has not scratched or marked up furniture or property, learning to scratch only where it’s allowed.

Lulu was bought from a breeder for her hypoallergenic properties. The current owner has a cat allergy and has been completely fine since she’s been in the home. Some cat allergic folks have still reacted to her, however. Balinese cats are known for their friendly, interactive demeanor. They are very playful. They are great at jumping, and also teachable for areas that they aren’t to access. Balinese cats are known to be friendly with other animals, though Lulu has not had much exposure to them other than guinea pigs in a cage.

Her recent weeks have involved some signs of stress and anxiety in the way of easy startling and some misses with the litter box some of the time with voiding outside of the litter box. Some of the children’s bigger noises are not appreciated, making her dash away. A neighbor’s cat has also been causing some stress, as it lunges at her from the other side of the window. She is on a trial of fluoxetine from the veterinarian, but the experts are saying that she ultimately needs a more chill stable home in order to not feel stressed. The veterinarian also recommended that some outside time might be a help, but this is not possible in her current residence due to proximity to a busy road, and many birds of prey circling the area; a catio would be an ideal option as Lulu is strictly an indoor cat. She has been showing signs of improvement with new litter and her medication. Usually animals on fluoxetine are on it for a 3-6 months and then weaned off.

Her ideal adoptive circumstance would be someone who is willing to continue the litter retraining in a quiet environment, and who would have a relaxed, predictable home that gives her lots of love and play time, with potential for some catio or supervised outside time in the future.

If you are an experienced cat person that is interested in providing Lulu Belle with the support she needs to overcome her stress and anxiety, and retrain her with the litter box, please send Juliane an email describing yourselves, your home situation, your experience, and how you would go about helping Lulu get back to being a playful, confident cat .
