About Gretchen

Someone is going to be getting an amazing cat!!

Gretchen, aka Sun Spot, arrived at our doorstep quite by chance. A good Samaritan became aware that she was a stray and attempted to house her, but they already had a dog and the two simply did not mesh. And so Gretchen became a CCAR rescue…

There are so many things that make Gretchen special, and we’ve only known her for a short time.

Gretchen is super smart. She is very observant and pays close attention to everything going on around her, storing information and putting it to use later. (This girl figured out how to use a cat door in 5 seconds! We’ve had cats that would have starved before figuring it out…) She likes strings and balls and plays with them very adeptly (and she figures out if you are trying to ‘fool’ her in no time)!

Gretchen is quite social and once she gets to know you she can be quite vocal. She’s not a lap cat, but she enjoys being petted, purring loudly, and often ‘coos’ with every stroke. She’ll come to demand attention (often jumping up on you or right next to you) and after a few minutes of love she simply moves to a location just out of reach… however, she does not appreciate being left alone for long periods.

We call her Sun Spot because she spends most of the day moving from one sun patch to another. We always know where to find her based on where the sun is shining! If she can be by an open door or window screen, she’ll soak in the scents and rays for hours…

Gretchen is very food motivated, but does not overeat. (As soon as she sees where the treats are, she will point them out to you!) She has no problems with the litter and is not on any medications.

Gretchen is the furriest cat we’ve ever seen! You may think you are looking at pics of 2 different cats… the vets think that she probably had to spend last winter outdoors and developed a thick Yeti-like coat. We got her at the beginning of Summer and she sheds… so we had her shaved. (Totally up to her forever owners if you want to let it grow out. She is a gorgeous girl either way.)

That’s Gretchen in a nutshell. A playful, savvy, happy go lucky cat, who is content to spend most of her time looking for sun spots and hanging out with her human(s). Unfortunately, she will not share them with other pets.

Gretchen’s CCAR ID# is L23-080.
