Lola's Story: |
|
Lola is a wonderful girl, very much a puppy still, boundless energy and 68 lbs of muscle wrapped up in a wonderful Bloodhound body and face. Unfortunately, as a puppy, she perhaps did not receive the necessary discipline and stimulation that this breed needs and, as a result, requires a firm hand and definitely some obedience training. This is a smart girl and she learns quickly but remember she is a Hound; stubborn, independent, hardworking and loyal. She needs a special home with someone who understands the breed and is prepared to work with her. Lola will not be adopted to anyone who has anyone under 15 years living in the home or visiting on a regular basis. Lola did bite the six year old daughter of the previous owner; full information on the incident will be disclosed to any potential adopter. Briefly, she was in heat as they were going to breed her; she was given a soft toy which she "mothered." The six year went to move the toy and Lola bit her; the child was taken to the hospital, did not require stitches, but was bruised and received a puncture wound. As a result of this, it was suggested that the dog be euthanized; however, I felt that she deserved an opportunity to be assessed in a different environment and, while one can never guarantee this will not happen again, I feel that she was in the wrong environment and situation for her and this incident was a result of this. Again, this incident will be fully discussed with any potential adopter. Release of Liability forms must also be signed by Lola's new owner. Lola was assessed by Steve Huxter of Transform and his assessment concludes this bio: " My initial meeting with “Lola” was very indicative of her behaviour and character. She is a very sweet and submissive girl. Lola comes from a strong pedigree of working dogs. Her parents and grandparents were champion search and rescues dogs. When Lola came into the home of her new human companions she was likely confused as to what her job was supposed to be. Coming from a long line of working dogs she would have been expecting the guidance and structure under which working dogs live. She is very fortunate to be in foster care with someone who is experienced in delivering the kind of leadership that Lola needs. Lola is an absolutely beautiful Bloodhound with a very gentle nature. Other than the fact that she walks like a Bloodhound; nose to the ground, eager for the scent; she has no behavioural issues that caused me any concern. That being said; I do recommend that she go to a home with a human companion who is experienced with dogs and can display the leadership qualities that Lola needs; to be her best. While she is loving and gentle, she will very much appreciate the guidance and limit setting that a strong leader will bring to her life. Steve Huxter " |
